Blackout fabrics are typically created and used for draperies such as curtains and blinds. It is ideal for rooms where you'd want to block the light out entirely when the curtains or blinds are shut.
Firstly, pass refers to the number of passes (layers) in the manufacturing process in which the acrylic foam is applied to the fabric. This foam is what makes the fabric opaque and also offers additional heat insulation and sound reduction too. In a 3-pass process, there are 3 layers of foam added to the fabric. The first layer is generally white, which is then followed by the black foam. Finally another white layer is added over the top of the black, which is so the fabric appears completely white from both sides. Three passes makes the finished material thicker, heavier but also superior at blocking light, offering heat insulation and sound reduction than lower passes.
In short, extremely effective! As mentioned above, Blackout is entirely opaque, meaning no light will omit through the fabric. Some pinpricks of light may be visible where the needle has pierced the fabric when it's been sewn.
Although noticeable, the extra weight and thickness of blackout is actually quite miniscule. Your curtains will still drape well, but feel free to request a sample of the lining if you're in doubt.

It isn't always possible to attain an exact colour match in our photographs and an incorrectly calibrated monitor may show varying results. Due to this samples are available and you can request a sample by selecting "Add Sample". We highly recommend requesting a sample if a colour match is essential.
